Our Favorite Surface Book Features

Back in October Microsoft threw the tech world a curve ball when they unveiled their first laptop, the Surface Book. The laptop has many of the characteristics that we have all grown to love about the Surface Pro, with some added features.

For today’s blog post, let’s take a look at some of the features we are particularly excited about:

10+ Hours of Battery Life

Yes, that’s right. In fact, PC Magazine’s battery test on the Surface Book lasted 15 hours and 41 minutes. They point out, this is longer than the first six films in the Star Wars saga, which lasts 13.8 hours. That’s enough to last the entire flight from NYC to Hong Kong, without taking any breaks.

1 Terabyte of Storage

The storage drives of the Surface Book are solid-state based, meaning they use flash memory for storage. This massive amount of storage being one of the standard four options ensures that users are taken care of regardless of what their needs are.

Detachable GPU Option

The detachable GPU really ups the credibility of the Surface Book as a graphic design and 3D modeling device. This combination of graphics power and storage opens up the Surface Book to a whole group of professionals that have limited options otherwise. The Surface Books that come with this option have a Maxwell-based, 1GB Nvidia GeForce graphics processor in addition to the Intel HD Graphics 520 unit. These extra processors are in the detachable keyboard, which means the unit can be removed in an effort to maximize battery life.

Incredible Versatility

Microsoft clearly put a lot of effort into the design of the hinge on the back of the Surface Book. Much like the Surface Pro line of products, the Book is meant to be used in whatever use case the end-user needs. It can be a tablet, a laptop, or flip over on itself and act as a notepad.

Windows Hello

The Surface Book also comes fully equipped with Windows Hello, the innovative front-facing authentication camera that will allow you to by-pass your password screen. This is a new feature that has come along in Windows 10 that dramatically increases the flexibility of how you secure your devices.
